Black ice concerns loom as Atlanta's southside comes back from winter storm

What we know:

Road conditions on Atlanta's Southside have improved slightly, but many areas remain icy and difficult to navigate.

By Wednesday afternoon, major roadways, like State Road 74 in Fayette County, became passable. Meanwhile, side streets and shaded areas are still hazardous.

Many businesses stayed closed due to the slick roads. Though some, like Kroger, operated with reduced staff.

Local perspective:

Drivers in areas like Coweta County and along State Road 16 faced severe conditions, leading many of them to abandon their cars on the side of the road.

With temperatures dropping to the low teens, untreated roads remained icy overnight.

What's next:

The FOX 5 Storm Team is anticipating above freezing temperatures by Thursday afternoon. Along with a little sunshine, that should help improve road conditions.

School districts are monitoring the situation for potential black ice on Thursday morning, following closures earlier in the week due to snow and ice.
