Los Angeles police on Thursday arrested an assault suspect who led them on a chase from Van Nuys to the Universal City area, where officers used a pit maneuver to stop the car on a freeway off-ramp.

The pursuit began about 9:20 a.m. near Sepulveda and Burbank boulevards, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Officers chased the car on city streets and on the Hollywood (170) Freeway before forcing it to stop about 9:55 a.m. on the Lankershim Boulevard offramp from the southbound Hollywood (101) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol and reports from the scene.
