2 arrested for fatal April 2024 Athens shooting

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Nigel Turner that occurred on April 17, 2024, on Huntington Road in Athens.

What we know:

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department announced that Jutaraz Morton, 24, of Winder, and Timia Cobbs, 25, of Athens, were apprehended on Jan. 22, after warrants were issued for their arrest.

Morton faces charges including malice murder, felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies. Cobbs is charged with malice murder, felony murder, and two counts of aggravated assault.

The investigation into the shooting began after officers responded to the 100 block of Huntington Road on April 17, 2024, around 11 p.m. Turner was found deceased at the scene from a gunshot wound, and a second victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
