$1 million in pot discovered in Henry County home

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. - Drug agents with the Flint Circuit Drug Task Force found 1,250 pounds of marijuana in a home in Henry County, with a value of $1 million to $1.25 million on the streets.

The home on Chestnut Lane, which neighbors tell FOX 5 was given recent upgrades to the exterior and yard with a shrine to the Virgin Mary, was raided by agents Wednesday.

"We weren't expecting that much [marijuana] at all," Major Chad Rosborough said. "That will put a dent in the drug trade for a little while," he said, who tells FOX 5, a tip to agents led authorities and the Drug Enforcement Agency to search the home; when inside, officers found only a mattress and blocks of wrapped drugs.

Agents said the value of each pound of marijuana could be valued at $800 to $1,000.

Neighbors said they did not suspect any illegal activity and rarely saw people come to the home at all, but are concerned how the drugs were stored so close to neighborhood children. 

"That's a lot of drugs. There's a bus stop down there," Amber Vorhies said, whose family lives in the neighborhood.

Officers took a man in his 30's into custody, and have not released his identity. Agents are working to find his associates and where the drugs came from, as well as where it would have been headed.
