National Wear Red Day: Raising awareness about heart disease

Friday, February 2, is National Wear Red Day, which is held on the first Friday in February every year to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease and save lives

Did you know heart disease is the number one killer of women? In 2003, the American Heart Association and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute took action against a disease that was claiming the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year – a disease that women weren't paying attention to.

Heart disease and stroke cause one in three deaths among women each year, killing approximately one woman every minute.

The American Heart Association encourages you to wear red on National Wear Red Day to help support educational programs and increase women’s awareness and research about cardiovascular health.
