Comic store draws in business thanks to blockbuster film

In case you haven’t heard, Superman and Batman have been bumped from the top of the superhero list thanks to Black Panther, the blockbuster movie breaking records around the world.

However, long before Wakanda came to life on the big screen, Black Panther was a barrier-breaking comic book character, something the team at comic book shop Galactic Quest is happy to tell you more about.

The origin story (get it?) of Galactic Quest stretches all the way back to 1991 when owner Kyle Puttkammer opened Cards & Comics at Britt's Flea Market in Lawrenceville.  The business got a new location and a new name the following year, and since then it’s expanded into two locations (Lawrenceville & Buford) and become a major part of the comic, gaming, and convention scenes.  Puttkammer says right now it’s a great time to be part of the comic world, thanks to the huge success of superhero-themed television shows like FOX’s “Gotham” and “The Gifted” and films like Black Panther.  Oh, and by the way, Black Panther made his first appearance in Marvel Comics’ Fantastic Four #52 in July of 1966 — and Galactic Quest has plenty of the hero’s stories in stock at both locations.

Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken spent the morning with Kyle Puttkammer and the gang at Galactic Quest in Buford, learning more about the iconic characters who live on the shelves of this local favorite.
