Wintry mix ends after light ice accumulation in NE Georgia

Temperatures rose above freezing across north Georgia by mid-morning Sunday, ending the winter weather threat in the area.

Some freezing rain and sleet fell in the early morning hours, bringing light ice accumulations to northeast Georgia. A portion of that area was under a Winter Weather Advisory until 10 a.m. Hall County received some of the highest ice accumulations Sunday morning, with 0.16" of ice buildup reported in Gainesville.

Most areas saw ice accumulate primarily on elevated surfaces, and it only lasted for a few hours.

The biggest impact from this storm system was the heavy rain. Several locations have received over an inch of rain with isolated locations exceeding two inches.

We will be much drier this afternoon, but the ground will remain saturated.

Overnight, we will have gradual clearing with temperatures cooling near or below freezing.

Our next best chance for rain, and only rain, will be Wednesday.
