Winter-chill returns with widespread freezing temps

The winter-chill has returned with widespread freezing temperatures Friday morning and even some reports of patchy black ice on the roads.

Even though we will have plenty of sunshine Friday, temperatures will struggle to warm above 40 degrees.

The weather will be great for outdoor activities this weekend, but make sure you dress warmly. Saturday will be another sun-filled day with unseasonably cold temperatures, and Sunday we will be slightly warmer with more clouds.

A few sprinkles are possible in the mountains this weekend, but the confidence is very high it will be short-lived and have a low impact.

The biggest weather story comes Tuesday. That’s when the next big weather maker will move through north Georgia. As of Friday, it is too early to forecast exact numbers, but there’s enough agreement in the models to mention the possibility of a wintry mix. After that cold front moves through, we will have the coldest air of the season. Some areas will remain at or below freezing for several hours, if not days.
