The severe storm threat increases for north Georgia with areas west of Atlanta under a "level 2" risk for damaging winds.
The confidence is growing that the strong line of storms to our west will hold together longer than anticipated which means conditions will be favorable for the development of damaging winds, torrential rain, frequent lightning and small hail. At this time we can't rule out the possibility of a brief spin-up tornado, but it's highly unlikely.
Thankfully, all of the strong storms will fade by midnight and we can ALL rest easy tonight.
Additional storms are likely Friday, but they will mainly be in the afternoon and a hit or miss scenario. The models are indicating widespread showers and thunderstorms, which some could reach strong to severe limits, throughout the day on Saturday.
Currently, the Mother's Day Forecast doesn't look favorable for outdoor activities, but based on the latest information we could have some dry time the first half of the day.
We will continue to post updates throughout the day as needed. Stay weather AWARE with the FOX 5 Storm Team app!
