A severe weather threat continued into the early Sunday morning hours, with a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 2 a.m. Sunday morning for parts of north Georgia.

Several areas were hit hard by damaging winds, torrential rain, large hail and frequent lightning overnight that produced widespread damage. Saturday evening also brought some incredible amounts of hail, especially in Gwinnett County, where tennis ball size hail was reported.

The storms continued to weaken and gradually ended shortly after midnight.

On Sunday the risk for severe storms will be much lower for all of north Georgia. A few strong storms could develop with the main threat being damaging winds with torrential rain, frequent lightning and hail.

Outdoor activities won’t be a complete washout, but at times you will need to delay them and let the storms pass.
