UGA's Reed Named SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week

The Southeastern Conference named Georgia redshirt sophomore defensive back J.R. Reed as the league’s Co-Defensive Player of the Week Monday.

The honor for Reed follows the Bulldogs’ 42-7 destruction of Florida Saturday.

Reed, a native of Frisco, Texas, and his teammates held the Gators to a single touchdown that was scored with less than three minutes on the clock and the score 42-0. ‘

In the third quarter, after the Bulldogs sacked Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks and forced him to fumble, Reed scooped up the loose ball and ran it in for a three-yard touchdown.

The first-year starter was second on the team with eight tackles, including half a sack, and moved up to second on the squad with 44 stops this season.

This is the Bulldogs’ sixth SEC weekly honor of the season.  Senior outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter was named the Defensive Player of the Week after the win at #24 Notre Dame; Fromm garnered Freshman of the Week honors in the victories over #17 Mississippi State and Missouri; senior tailback Nick Chubb was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Week at Tennessee; and senior left tackle Isaiah Wynn was named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week after the Vanderbilt victory.

The second-ranked Bulldogs (8-0, 5-0 SEC) play host to South Carolina (6-2, 4-2) on Saturday in Sanford Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
