Triple-A Gwinnett Braves to choose new team name for 2018

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - The Triple-A Gwinnett Braves are asking fans to assist in choosing a new team name for the 2018 season.

The team's general manager, North Johnson, says some fans are confused by having the Gwinnett Braves so close to the team's parent Atlanta Braves club, about 30 minutes away. So the team has decided to choose a unique team name for next season.

Fans are encouraged to submit suggestions on the team's website at www.GwinnettBraves.com . The contest began Monday and will continue until June 2.

Johnson says a new name will give the team the chance to "connect even further within our community."

A committee will chose five to seven finalists for fan voting which will begin June 19.
