Last Friday night, an amazing young woman was named honorary homecoming queen at Commerce High School.

Katie Vandiver, a special needs student, has been a member of Commerce High for seven years. She loves spending time with her classmates, fun-filled family movie nights, and collecting Batman memorabilia.

"Katie was born weighing 1 pound 10 ounces and has overcome many medical issues that may limit her physically; yet, these have never seemed to impact her friendly personality, incredible sense of humor and positive attitude," her mother, Jennifer Vandiver, said.

Katie's teachers describe her as "one who lives life to the fullest" and someone who "always values and understands the most important things in life."

Katie was a member of the 2018 Senior Homecoming Court at Commerce High Schoo, and was escorted on the school's basketball court by her parents, Billy and Jennifer. She was then named an honorary homecoming queen.

"This was such an honor and privilege for Katie to be included in this awesome occasion," Jennifer Vandiver said.
