Braves' Sean Newcomb takes no-hitter into the 9th in win against Dodgers

Atlanta Braves left-handed pitcher Sean Newcomb nearly became the first Braves pitcher to throw a no-hitter since 1994.

Newcomb was one strike away in the top of the 9th inning when Dodgers shortstop Chris Taylor singled to left field. Newcomb was then pulled from the game. His final stat line included 8 strikeouts over 8 2/3rd innings. The only base-runner prior to the 9th inning single was a walk to Yasiel Puig in the 6th inning.

The Braves went on to win the game 4-1.

Newcomb was attempting to be the first Braves pitcher to throw a no-hitter since Kent Mercker in 1994. That was also against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
