Benedictine wins Georgia Class AA championship
ATLANTA (AP) -- Tyleek Collins and John Wesley Kennedy combined for 175 yards and four touchdowns to lift No. 1 Benedictine to a 49-26 win over No. 2 Fitzgerald in the Georgia High School Association's Class AA championship Saturday at the Georgia Dome.
Collins rushed 11 times for 95 yards and scored on runs of 43 and 7 yards. Kennedy carried 15 times for 80 yards, scored on a 7-yard run and returned an interception 43 yards for a touchdown.
Benedictine (15-0) won its second state title, the other coming in 2014. The Cadets have won 35 of their last 36 games, that loss coming to Fitzgerald in the 2015 state quarterfinals.
Benedictine quarterback Nick Iannone completed 7 of 8 passes for 172 yards and one touchdown. Terrick Smalls ran for a pair of scores.
Fitzgerald (13-2) was led by quarterback James Graham, who rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 162 yards and one touchdown. J.D. King rushed 14 times for 100 yards and one touchdown.
