Atlanta's new Mercedes-Benz Stadium is one step close to being ready.

FOX 5 News was there Wednesday as the final steel beam for the stadium's roof was hoisted into the air and set into place. Beforehand, construction workers attended a ceremony where they each signed the last few beams.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium's fixed roof is made up of 18,000 tons of steel. It was designed as a retractable structure to provide flexibility for various events.

The soon-to-be home of the Atlanta Falcons is scheduled to open in 2017.
