Winter Weather Advisory for NE Georgia Mountains, Light Snow Possible

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 2:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Sunday in the northeast Georgia mountains, for the possibility of rain changing to snow. Counties in the advisory area include: Murray, Fannin, Gilmer, Union, Towns, Pickens, Dawson, Lumpkin and White. Cities in the advisory area include Dahlonega and Cleveland.

Accumulations from 1/2"-1" are possible in higher elevations. According to FOX 5 Meteorologist Jeff Hill, "We are still looking for the possibility of some light snow mixing with the light rain and in the counties within the Advisory there could be a dusting of snow by daybreak. Some bridges and overpasses could become slick as temperatures drop to near freezing."

By late morning temperatures will warm well above freezing and should melt most of what accumulates. Once this system passes through the area, the coldest air so far this winter moves in for Monday and Tuesday. Highs for most of north Georgia will struggle to get out of the 30s.
