Where was the ambulance?

A hush fell over the stands as football fans saw a Clark Atlanta player hit the ground and remain there for 20 minutes, maybe more, with no paramedics responding during that time.

A spokesperson says the two school staff doctors were on hand, saw the hit taken by the player, and got to him almost immediately. Yet, Donna Brock says when they checked for the on-duty private ambulance staff, they were not at the field.

Brock says the ambulance manager had no explanation why the paramedics were absent. She says there was supposed to be a back-up ambulance dispatched from another downtown location but it did not arrive promptly.

With the player still requiring assistance, Clark staff had to call for a Grady ambulance.

Fortunately, the player is not believed to have suffered any long term injury from the on-field collision. But the spokesperson says the private ambulance company will not work for the university anymore. The school will contract with another company.
