WATCH: The new happiness hack for your diet

Happiness can be elusive- and hard to hang onto. Now science is telling us there’s a sure fire way to substantially improve your mood- by eating more fruits and vegetables.

Staring at a plate of broccoli as a kid, you probably thought that the only food that would ever bring you joy was candy, cake, or pie. But according to a new study from the University of Warwick, upping your fruit and veggie intake to 8-a-day will do wonders for your well-being. The “feel-good factor” that came from eating more produce was as significant as going from being unemployed to getting a new job.

The authors of the study don’t know exactly why this happens, but they speculate increased antioxidants may play a big part.

Two small catches: 1.) Eating French Fries doesn’t count- and 2.) while the boost in happiness comes relatively quickly compared to the health benefits, it can take up to 2 years of eating more produce for your mood to finally improve.

So it’s gonna take a little patience, but two years from now you’ll still be here whether you up your fruit and veggie intake or not. So why not give yourself something great to look forward to? If you are what you eat- fresh veggies mean a fresh outlook on life!
