Walt Disney Studios announces film releases through 2027, including ‘Star Wars,' ‘Avatar' movies

Following the recent acquisition of the 21st Century Fox film studios, Walt Disney has unveiled its upcoming film release schedule through 2027, which includes “Star Wars,” “Avatar” and Marvel franchise movies.  

Disney’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” will be released in December. Then, starting in 2022, three untitled “Star Wars” films will release on the weekend before Christmas every other year, including on Dec. 22, 2022, Dec. 20, 2024 and Dec. 18, 2026.

In the alternating years, four new “Avatar” sequels will be released also on pre-Christmas weekend starting in 2021, including “Avatar 2” on Dec. 17, 2021, “Avatar 3” on Dec. 22, 2023, “Avatar 4” on Dec. 19, 2025 and “Avatar 5” on Dec. 17, 2027.

This year, the studios’ slate includes several Disney films, including the live-action “Aladdin” on May 24, a live-action “The Lion King” on July 19, “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” on Oct. 18 and “Frozen 2” on Nov. 22. 

Next year, more Disney films are slated to be released, including “Onward” on March 6, “Mulan” on March 27, “Artemis Fowl” on May 29 and “Cruella” on Dec. 23.  

After the record success of Marvel Studios' “Avengers: Endgame,” released in April, Marvel is scheduled to release two untitled films in 2020, three movies in 2021 and another three in 2022.
