Walker County high school teacher charged with sexually assaulting student

A Walker County teacher was charged with sexually assaulting a teenage student at the high school where he taught, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Rodney Dewayne Mann, 43, was charged with one count of sexual assault by an authority figure and one count of misdemeanor possession of marijuana and drug-related items.

The GBI said on May 31 the Walker County Sheriff’s Office asked for their assistance in the investigation the allegation that Mann sexually assaulted a 16-year-old Ridgeland High School student.

Investigators said after executing a search warrant for Mann’s home, he was booked into the Walker County Jail.

Mann resigned Friday. Investigators said he had been working at the high school for eight years.
