Video of SUV may hold clues in Powder Springs drive-by shooting

Residents of a Powder Springs neighborhood are demanding answers after a drive-by shooting on Hopkins Court left several homes damaged.

Although no one was injured, the community is eager for the authorities to apprehend those responsible.

What we know:

A video capturing an SUV speeding away from the scene is hoped to aid in identifying the culprits. One resident, who wishes to remain anonymous due to safety concerns, recounted the harrowing experience. "I looked at the clock and it was 3:36, and that's when the first shots went off," he said, noting that the gunfire woke him from his sleep.

Initially, the shots didn't seem numerous or loud, but upon stepping outside, the gravity of the situation became clear. "It didn't sound too loud and it didn't sound like too many until I walked outside and they were at 15 shell casings, and when I came back outside they were at like 29," the neighbor added.

FOX 5 reported bullet holes riddling two homes in the area.

What they're saying:

One homeowner, who recently moved to the neighborhood, believes their house was wrongfully targeted. Photos reveal bullets piercing through the walls of another home, where the occupants typically work during the day.

"They are targeting all of the wrong people and it's bringing mayhem to the neighborhood," another resident expressed, highlighting the community's growing frustration.

Residents remain hopeful for a resolution that will restore peace to their community.

Local perspective:

This incident is not the first instance of violence in the area. "Two months before, there was a young lady coming off of the side streets, and they shot her car up 21 times," a neighbor recalled. He also mentioned a triple shooting that occurred a few years ago, emphasizing the need for change. "Take away the bad guys so everybody out here can sleep because right now they can't sleep," he urged.

What we don't know:

FOX 5 has reached out to Cobb County Police and Powder Springs Police for further information on the shooting.
