Dramatic dash cam video released Tuesday shows a dangerous traffic stop where police said they were forced to open fire on a man they pulled over. An Emerson police officer is on paid administrative leave after shooting.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said they are looking into the matter that happened on October 14th on Interstate 75. FOX 5 News has decided not to show the moments of the actual shooting.

Police said Brent Andrew Brannon, 27, refused to comply with the officer’s commands to put down a gun. A Taser was ineffective, according to police, forcing Officer Robert K. Smith, 24, to open fire. Brannon was transported to an area hospital, but later died.

Officer Smith pulled Brannon over for a tag violation. He called for backup after a check revealed a warrant. Brannon was wanted in Columbus on outstanding charges for trafficking heroin, possession of a sawed off rifle, sale of marijuana, and possessing of drug paraphernalia.

After it concludes its investigation, the GBI will turn the case over the district attorney for review.
