Residents of Gardens at Camp Creek Apartments react
What they're saying:
Residents described diving for cover when the shots rang out. "I got on the floor, it just ducked, so I won't get hit," said Kenroy Arnold, who lives in the complex. He added that the violence puts children at risk. "Yeah, it's really dangerous. Like, there's a lot of kids running around here, and a lot kids being outside. And it's, like, dangerous. If a kid was outside, they could have got shot or, like a stray bullet or something."
Carean Warner, another resident, said she feared for her younger siblings. "Like when I heard the gunshots, it made me feel like if something could have happened to the kids outside, like if families could have been put in danger," she said. Warner said she heard four shots and later learned her sister had witnessed the aftermath.
The shooting comes just days after a one-year-old was shot in the same complex. Warner said the repeated violence has left her shaken. "I feel less safe because like if it happened again, I don't know like if I can be like in a situation the other two people was like putting," she said.
Neighbors also worried about the toll on children who may have witnessed the violence. "It's like they're too young to like visualize, like they are too young to like be in this type of environment to even like be in this situation," Warner said.
