Two people hurt by falling canopy in northwest Atlanta
ATLANTA (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Ponce de Leon Avenue was closed for several hours Sunday night after a canopy fell and injured two people, according to Atlanta police.
The incident happened steps away from the popular Ponce City Market.
It's believed that the canopy ripped away from the building's roof by the wild winds at the time.
Officials told FOX 5, the downed canopy struck two people walking below as well as taking out several electrical wires in the area.
First responders blocked the busy avenue in both directions while crews worked to clear the mess. The road eventually reopened around 11 Sunday night.
Police say the two people injured are in a nearby hospital in stable condition.
Ponce City Market has not responded to requests for comment.
