Two more bodies recovered after East Point house fire

EAST POINT, Ga. - Fire investigators have recovered two more bodies after a house fire in East Point early Tuesday morning. 

Following the deadly blaze on Hogan Road, searchers found one body in the debris on Tuesday and announced two more people had been found on Wednesday. Investigators said the two of the bodies were that of males and one body was that of a female.

 

 

The fire started just after midnight at the ranch-style home, according to firefighters. Rescuers arrived at the home within five minutes of getting the call. Two people had escaped the home, which was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

One of the survivors of the fire, Oscar Vannorman, said he has doubts over his landlord, identified as 68-year-old Glen Harold Giles, surviving the blaze. Vannorman and another woman escaped the flames by jumping out of windows. 

"If he ain't here- where is he?" Vannorman said. "I can't see him being away this long, especially a situation like this," he said.

As of Tuesday night, Giles was still reported missing. Family and friends said he resided in the home and rented out rooms to several tenants.

"If he's in there- they'll find out," said son Michael Giles, who said he and his family are patiently waiting for answers on the whereabouts of his father. "We're trying to get through it, trying to make it," he said.

Fire officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

"Our primary search resulted in one fatality being discovered. The search was suspended only after the entire debris area was surveyed, and no additional fatalities or signs of concern were found," said public information officer Renita Shelton in a statement to FOX 5.

Identification of the bodies recovered have not yet been released.
