Trooper: High-speed chase, driver had 3 children in car
ATLANTA - A man with three children and a woman in his car took troopers on a high-speed chase late Friday evening, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
GSP troopers said they spotted Jerry Lee Cozart speeding and weaving in traffic while traveling southbound on Interstate 75 near Northside Drive. Troopers said Cozart refused to stop after they said he zoomed past a trooper on patrol while driving in the HOV lane. Troopers said he sped off onto the Downtown Connector before getting onto Interstate 20 westbound.
Troopers said Cozart got off at the M.L.King Blvd. exit and lost control of his car, crossing the center line and striking a van and a sedan.
The driver of the van was not injured, but his passenger was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. No one in the sedan was injured.
Trooper said Cozart and four of his passengers were all injured. The three children, a 15-year-old boy, and two 3-year-old girls, were rushed to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Cozart and an adult female passenger were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Cozart has outstanding warrants in DeKalb County and other municipalities which include armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during a felony. Troopers have not yet released the charges in connection to the chase.
