Toco Hills restaurants gutted by fire
ATLANTA - Two restaurants in the Toco Hills area along North Druid Hills Road were gutted by fire Friday afternoon.
It happened in the Wingstop and Tokyo Grill, which share a building in the 2900 block of North Druid Hills Road. Firefighters are calling the building a total loss.
Captain Eric Jackson with the DeKalb County Fire Department said firefighters’ efforts to quickly extinguish the blaze were hampered by the building having multiple roofs. Captain Jackson said the fire hid between the three separate roofs of the structure, flaring up when firefighters thought the inferno was knocked down.
At one point, fire officials believed the fire was out and began to release some units only to have the fire reignite the outer portion of the structure’s roof.
Jackson said firefighters will be on the scene through Saturday to make sure the building does not spark up again.
No word on what cause the fire.
There were no reports of injuries.
