Three in custody after brief standoff in Brookhaven

A man is in custody after a short standoff at an apartment complex along Buford Highway in Brookhaven.

Brookhaven Police said several law enforcement agencies were out at the Buckhead Plaza apartments in the 2800 block of Buford Highway to serve a warrant on a man wanted for prostitution. Police said the suspect, identified later by investigators as 51-year-old Juan Lorenzo-Nino, reportedly tried to escape through a hidden door after barricading himself in an apartment.

SKYFOX 5 flew over the scene around 3 p.m. and spotted heavily police presence in the area and the apartment complex blocked off.

Cross Keys High School, Sequoyah Middle School, and Woodward Elementary School were placed on lockdown during the incident as a precaution, but that was lifted once police were able to safely take the suspect into custody.

Two others were also taken into custody. Their names have not yet been released.

Police said an officer with the Brookhaven Police Department was injured during the encounter. The officer was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Residents were allowed by into the complex following the arrests.
