Three Bids Submitted in Redevelopment of Turner Field

What will happen to Turner Field once the Atlanta Braves move to their new stadium? It is a question that has left open a lot of speculation and emotion. Now, the future of the property might be in the hands of one of three developers.

The City of Atlanta and Fulton County Recreation Authority said Monday that they have three proposals on the table for redevelopment of the 67-acre property that includes the current stadium. The Carter/Georgia State University/Oakwood Development, Mercury Youth Organization, Inc., and Rita World Pearl Kingdom, LLC. all have all submitted bids to redevelop and revitalize the area.

“The bids will be evaluated on the basis of the requirements set forth in the RFP,” stated Executive Director Bottoms in a release sent to FOX 5 Atlanta on Monday. “It is our intent to secure the best possible outcome for surrounding communities in a way that improves their quality of life and enhances the vibrancy of the city as a whole.”

The proposals must include “affordable housing, retail, parks and green space, and an acknowledgement of the area’s sport history.” The Authority wants the plan to “generate positive economic impact to the city and surrounding communities.”
