Thieves target lawn-care equipment

Atlanta Police are investigating several burglaries involving the theft of heavy-duty lawn care equipment.

On Tuesday, thieves stole a weed-eater, leaf blower and hedge trimmer from the truck of a work crew employed by Atlanta Greenscapes. Then on Wednesday, one of the company's crews was targeted again; this time, losing other high-priced equipment.

Company owner Michael Gilson says his equipment was also stolen from a worksite back in June. Gilson says the total loss is more than $6,000. He says the losses have caused him to delay work on some jobsites. Additionally, these crimes are coming at the lawn care industry's busiest season.

Industry experts like Mark South, owner of American Chainsaws and 2 Cycle, Inc., says almost every day someone comes into his store looking to replace stolen equipment. He believes the stolen goods are being sold on the street. South says thieves are often quick and know what they're doing. They often target high-priced items that are easier to carry.

Atlanta police are aware of the crimes and are currently looking for suspects. If you have any information that could lead to an arrest, you are urged to call the Atlanta Police Department.
