Thieves pose as maintenance workers

DeKalb County police said they are searching for two burglars responsible for possibly a dozen break-ins, who pose as maintenance workers to gain entry into housing complexes.

"I had a small panic attack and called 911," said Erika Withers, who received a notification on her remote security system that someone was inside her home.

She watched the burglary live through the camera.

"You see it, and there's nothing you can do about it," said husband John Piedrahita.

The thieves made off with the couple's electronics.

Police said the men target electronics inside apartments or condos, and gain easy entry through their disguise. Withers said she had spotted the thief with the yellow vest around the complex before.

"He looked like he was lost, which is why I noticed him. And I noticed he had a clipboard with no paper on it, which seemed odd, and that's what made me remember him," she said.

Police said the thieves have targeted complexes around Henderson Mill Road, and the Tucker and Brookhaven areas.
