Newnan Police are looking for leads in the discovery of a body of a young man found in a creek Thursday night.

Deputy Police Chief Rodney Riggs told FOX 5 News he cannot release the man's name, but confirmed the victim was black, in his late teens who suffered some form of trauma.

"We're not sure how he died, where he died or how he got here. All of that is under investigation. We received several anonymous tips about his body being in the creek. We hope more tips will come about what happened to him," Newnan's Deputy Police Chief.

Based on the condition of the body, police believe the victim was in the creek near a culvert under Calhoun Street for several days. The GBI will conduct an autopsy Monday. Homicide detectives are looking for solid leads from the community. Residents hope someone will come forward before anyone else gets hurt.

“This is just sad, sad for the family. Sad for the neighborhood. Sad for Black people. Our young men are killing each other and no one will come forward and tell police what they know. So it keeps happening. This cycle has got to stop," said Tina Melson, who lives near the creek where the body was found.
