A suspected serial robber is behind bars thanks to some crystal clear surveillance video and community members that joined forces.

DeKalb County police said the arrest is a great example of how working with the community and keeping them alert can solve crime. Police said a mall security officer spotted the crook as he cased out a jewelry store to rob.

Investigators said the surveillance footage shows Xzavier Ford pretending to be a customer and ask to see jewelry. Police tell FOX 5 Atlanta that is when he pulled out a gun and threatened the worker at Shirin Jewelry at North DeKalb Mall. The robber then demanded the man to clear out the cases into a bag.

Just two days before this robbery, officers said Ford held up another jewelry store at Stonecrest Mall. DeKalb detectives sent out pictures of the robber to area malls where they thought he would hit next. That is when a security guard at Northlake Mall spotted him wearing the same hat and sunglasses and carrying the same pistol.

DeKalb County police arrested Ford on the spot. He is accused of stealing more than $40,000 worth of jewelry.
