Suspect Wanted in Armed Robbery Captured after Foot Chase
ATLANTA - A suspect wanted in an armed store robbery in southeast Atlanta is in jail, FOX 5 News has learned.
Atlanta Police arrested 19-year-old Lorenza Johnson Wednesday. They believe he committed a string of armed robberies in the area, including one Sunday night at a CVS store on Moreland Avenue.
Arresting officers, Jones and LaPlante, spoke exclusively with FOX 5's Marissa Mitchell Friday. They said they spotted a car that matched the vehicle description from one of the robberies. Once they got closer, they recognized Johnson on New Town Circle. But Johnson and another man ran away.
"Any time you have a violent offender like that it's safe to assume they are going to run or fight. Not only that, we knew there was a weapon involved," Jones said.
The officers captured Johnson. But he had to shocked with a stun gun.
First responders transported him to Grady Memorial Hospital's Detention Center. Once there, Jones said he tried to escape again. But he was apprehended.
"I am glad he was apprehended. It just prevents other robberies, getting someone that violent off the street," LaPlante said.
Johnson faces a slew of charges including armed robbery, aggravated assault and escaping custody. He's being held in the Fulton County Jail.
