Suspect slams police cruiser with truck, officers forced to open fire
ATLANTA - Police said they were forced to shoot a driver who they said attempted to run over officers following a chase.
According to Atlanta Police Chief George Turner, a registration check on Lakewood Avenue came up as a truck carjacked in Forest Park earlier.
The officer attempted to pull over the truck, but the driver took off. A short chase ensued; ending at Moury Avenue and Jonesboro Road around 4 a.m. Friday.
Police said the driver of the truck slammed into a building, hitting a gas meter. When officers got out of the car to make an arrest, police said the driver put the truck in reverse, almost hitting officers and crashing into a police cruiser.
At that point, multiple officers shot at the suspect.
The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital.
No officers were injured.
