Spring storms give way to the return of winter

A big change in the weather is coming this weekend. Spring-like temperatures will give way to more seasonal conditions, and the chance of light snow in some areas of the north Georgia mountains.

Most of north Georgia was in the 70s on Thursday. Overnight and into Friday morning,  a quick moving storm system blew through north Georgia. Strong winds brought down some trees, and lightning sparked a couple of fires. Heavy rain fell across much of the area.

Over the weekend another complex will head our way, this time with colder air attached. The FOX 5 Storm Team is forecasting a cold rain for most of north Georgia, with some light snow mixed in in the higher elevations of the mountains. Only a few spots will see freezing temps by morning and any snow accumulation will be light. There will be accumulating snow just to our north in Tennessee and North Carolina, with 1" to 4" possible through the day on Sunday.

An occasional snowflake may fall anywhere north of I-20 early Sunday morning, but it will not be significant. It will, however, be a chilly, raw and wet day for metro Atlanta with some areas holding in the 40s.

Freezing temperatures are likely in metro Atlanta next week. So stay with the FOX 5 Storm Team.
