Songs of the Civil Rights

The history of the Negro Spiritual goes hand in hand with the history of Black America. Spirituals like "Steal Away" or "Don't Feel No Ways Tired" were songs of the field, secret camp meetings and the church. They allowed all to share some joy, but most of all pain.

One in particular, "Wade in the Water," remains especially cherished and passed down from generation to generation.

Local musician Alta Tena Sutton uses its music and lyrics to share an important moment in Black History.

FOX 5's Lisa Rayam has the story.
