PELHAM, Ala. (AP) — A high school soccer manager with down syndrome was recently surprised by teammates in central Alabama.

Al.com reports Oak Mountain soccer players presented 18-year-old Chandler Herrero with a championship ring. Herrero was given the ring by Eagles players to thank him for his consistent support during their championship seasons in 2015-16.

Herrero visited coach Daniel DeMasters classroom for the surprise ceremony this week. He was surrounded by his teammates, special education teachers and mother when he was presented the ring.

Oak Mountain won a second straight AHSAA Class 7A boys' soccer title in May with a 28-0-2 record. Herrero worked three years with the boys' soccer program, wearing the No. 23 jersey at games.
