Sketch released of man wanted for assaulted teen near school bus stop

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. - A Douglasville neighborhood on edge after police say a strange man assaulted a teen girl who was waiting for her school bus. Police said it happened early Friday morning at the Charlton Crossing subdivision.

"It's scary just to know that that happened," said resident Danny Morton.

"I know her parents are proud of that because anything could have happened," said resident Levar Thompson.

Levar Thompson said his daughter's principal sent home a note to parents and got on the bus and explained to the children what happened.

"They came on the bus and informed the children, telling them they needed to be aware of what was going on," said Thompson.

Douglasville Police put out a BOLO on social media explaining what happened and describing the man as 30 to 40 years old, with bushy hair and sideburns. He also had a missing tooth. The BOLO also stated the man was wearing a red shirt and a yellow jacket with a reflective green cross and black pants. He was wearing black shoes with the sole damaged on one of them.

The report also stated, "The suspect probably sustained injuries to his forehead during the assault."

Douglasville Police have stepped up patrols in the subdivision and hope to release a sketch of the suspect over the weekend.

The Douglas County School System released the following statement:

"The Douglasville Police Department is currently investigating an assault of one our students at a school bus stop Friday morning. The Chapel Hill Middle School student was able to fight off the suspect.  The victim has given a detailed description and is cooperating fully with authorities.

"Chapel Hill Middle School parents and students were made aware of the incident Friday.  Assistant Principal Jamar Graham rode the bus home with students Friday and has assured students of the school system’s commitment to their safety at all times.  Police are actively conducting an extensive investigation and have increased their patrols in the area until the suspect is apprehended. 

"It is unfortunate that this situation has occurred to one of our students. The safety of our students is our priority before, during and after school hours. We urge our parents and teachers to have conversations with students about safety and have provided tips to parents about walking to school and waiting for the school bus.
