Atlanta Police said a robbery attempt turned extremely dangerous when a criminal opened fire on a man he was reportedly trying to rob.

The incident happened Saturday  around 8:15 PM at the 77 12th Street apartment complex in Midtown Atlanta. Authorities said the victim was approached from behind by the robber, who pulled out a gun.

When the victim tried to fight back, Atlanta police said the suspect opened fire three times, missing the victim but shattering the glass panels of the apartment's front doors.

A young girl who was walking outside of the building was scratched by flying glass but her injuries were only minor. The attempted robbery victim was uninjured.

Authorities said the suspect was not able to get away with anything from the victim. Police are looking for a black male who fled the scene in a silver, four-door car.

Police spent several hours on the scene, and they plan to review surveillance footage. Anyone with information is asked to call the Atlanta Police Department.
