Sheriff: Woman's body found in well in Alabama

WETUMPKA, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama man is under arrest after authorities say he strangled a woman with a dog chain, dumped her body into a well and then told several people.

Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin says 41-year-old David Helms is charged with escape and murder in the death of 59-year-old Jane Huddleston.

The Montgomery Advertiser reports (http://on.mgmadv.com/2rZZt7Q) an inmate at the county jail told officers that Helms killed Huddleston on Monday. Helms was arrested for shoplifting Friday and spent two days in jail.

Franklin says he went to Huddleston and Helms' home, where he spotted Helms and another man. The other man told authorities that Helms killed Huddleston and dumped her body in a well. Huddleston's body was found in a well on the property.

It's unclear if Helms has a lawyer.
