A man accused of killing his mother in Tennessee has been arrested in Atlanta.

Deputies say John Ralph was trying to fly to Amsterdam when he was arrested at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Officials told FOX 5's Will Nunley, Ralph reportedly thought he had an alibi in place with plans to escape the country through Atlanta, until authorities in two states caught on.

According to the Clayton County Sheriff, the body of Edith Betty Ralph, the suspect's mother was discovered by deputies at her home in Tennessee's Carter County.

Investigators say the woman's body was found with severe trauma to her head and gunshot wounds to her body.

According to deputies, Ralph had lived with his mother and had made multiple statements to family and friends that she was "driving him crazy."

The night the murder took place, co-workers told police he asked them to take pictures of him at work saying, "if anything happened to his mother he would need an alibi."

Deputies arrested Ralph at the airport and brought him to the Clayton County Jail to await extradition.

He faces one count of first degree murder and is being held on $1 million bond.
