Secoriea Turner murder trial: Medical examiner testifies about bullet trajectory

The Fulton County chief medical examiner took the stand, describing the fatal wounds Turner suffered. Jurors also saw images of the family’s SUV, which was struck eight times by bullets on the passenger side and back left. Earlier in the day, Cobb County police officers testified about an unrelated incident in March 2020, months before Turner’s death.

Jurors heard emotional testimony Tuesday in the trial of Julian Conley, who is accused of shooting and killing 8-year-old Secoriea Turner during protests in Atlanta nearly five years ago.

What we know:

The Fulton County chief medical examiner took the stand, describing the fatal wounds Turner suffered.

"Given that the gunshots are on the left side of the car and none were on the right, as a person of science then I can assume that the bullet entered Secoriea's body entered from the left side of the car," the examiner testified during cross-examination.

Jurors also saw images of the family’s SUV, which was struck eight times by bullets on the passenger side and back left.

"The projectile went in the back towards the front, from her right towards her left and upwards," the examiner explained.

Officers said Conley was found carrying a full bag after they stopped a group of men near The Battery in Cobb County, following a report of erratic driving and someone throwing powder from a vehicle.

Prosecutors said they introduced that evidence in part to build their gang-related case against Conley.

When will the trial end?
