DeKalb County police’s gang unit was on the hunt for a murder suspect at a home Thursday, but instead ended up making two other arrests.

Police said went to the home on in the 3000 block of Waldrop Circle to make an arrest in connection with a recent murder. Investigators never found their murder suspect, but did arrest one man for allegedly harboring a fugitive and a second man accused of obstructing an officer. Police said two guns were also recovered.

"Oh, my god! I didn't know anything about that. There's always something going on over here. I've been living here 11 years and it just keeps getting worse and worse," said Kiyonna Johnson.

Investigators spent several hours searching the home and the cars parked in front. Neighbors told FOX 5 News they have seen lots of cars and people in and out of the home at all hours of the night. One man, who asked to remain anonymous, said witnesses are hesitant to report this type of activity to police. He believes that leaves residents in harm's way.

"It's like everyone is afraid to snitch, but that just makes it worse. But really, it's on the owners of these houses to step up and do better background checks on the people they are renting to. Things only got worse when the renters started to arrive. It seems like just don't care about the community the way we homeowners do," said the resident.

Police have not yet released the name of the murder suspect they were looking for, but said they are working strong leads. They have not released the names of the two men who were arrested Thursday afternoon.

"If something goes down, we all gotta do what we gotta do to protect ourselves, but it's say to say that because we shouldn't have to live like that with all these kids around here," one neighbor said.
