Sandy Springs Police Officers helped clean up a mess some vandals left behind after investigators said people broke several headstones and dug up a grave exposing a coffin.

It happened at the Power Family Cemetery located in the back of the Dunwoody Point Apartment Complex on Roswell Road.

“There was a grave that was dug up to expose the coffin,” said Sgt. Ron Momon with Sandy Springs Police. “Fortunately the coffin was not opened, but they did dig far enough to expose the coffin and also several headstones were knocked over and broken.”

Residents were shocked that someone had dug up a grave.

“Makes me wonder why they would want to do that,” said Nathanel Hooks who lives at the apartment complex. “What about that coffin would force someone to dig it out and just leave it there, it's really confusing and weird.”

Sandy Springs Police believe two people may have committed the crime. Two shovels and an empty bag of chips were left behind; those items were taken into evidence.

Investigators ask anyone with information to contact The Sandy Springs Police Department or Crime Stoppers 404.577.TIPS.  There is a reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
