Ross Harris trial day one, opening statements

BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Monday was opening statements in Ross Harris trial. Harris, 35, is a Cobb County man charged with murder in the June 2014 death of his 22-month-old son, Cooper, who was found dead in the back seat of Harris's hot SUV. Prosecutors believe he intentionally left his son to die at a time when Harris was unhappy in his marriage and looking for relationships with other women. Defense attorneys said the death was a tragic accident. In April, the trial was moved from Cobb County to Glynn County.

Here are the notes from the second day of the trial:

3:24 p.m. - “This case is about Cooper. This case is about what was done to him. This case is about who was doing it.” Says the prosecutor.

3:17 p.m. - Prosecution says that Harris agreed to go to lunch they day of Cooper's death “as long as someone else is driving.”

3:08 p.m.- Prosecution says two weeks before murder Harris stopped sending his wife pictures of Cooper arriving at school.

2:57 p.m. - Prosecution says Harris was living a double life and messaging underage girls as young at 15. They say he is obsessed with messaging apps and apps like “Whisper.”

2:48 p.m. - Apparently Harris said from the beginning, “don’t let me go to jail. I should be an advocate for things like this” and, “but there was no malicious intent” shortly after being arrested.

2:37 p.m. - Prosecution shows images of Harris throwing light bulbs into the back of his car during his lunch break, but not looking into the backseat.

2:29 p.m. - Prosecution says Harris should have noticed the smell of decay and urine as soon as he got into his car.  Says it should not have taken him till he got to the Akers Mill shopping center  to notice.

2:16 p.m. - Prosecutor describes Harris as being calm, cool, and collected after son’s death. He says Harris complained about the back of the cop car “being too hot.”

2:11 p.m. - Prosecution describes Harris returning to his car after lunch.

2 p.m. - Prosecution describes Harris yelling “What have I done, what have I done!” in a crowded shopping center. Says this behavior is not consistent with someone who just discovered what happened to their child. They say he did not call 911, but called his wife and the daycare center.

1:54 p.m. - Prosecution shows whisper post written the morning of Coopers death that they say Harris wrote. “I hate being married with kids. The novelty has worn off and I have nothing to show for it.”

1:52 p.m. - Shows picture of baby Cooper and describes the close to 30 woman Harris messaged the day of Coopers death. This included a girl  who Harris met when she was just 16 years old.

1:51 p.m. - Prosecution begins opening statement. Tell Jurors that Harris said, “I love my child and all, but we both need our space”

1:26 p.m.- Opening statements begin in the Ross Harris Trail.  Judge explains how the trail will work, and what order events like evidence testimony and deliberations will take place in.
