Red Cross installs smoke alarms for free

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - The Red Cross along with DeKalb County Fire Rescue installed hundreds of smoke alarms for free Wednesday.

It was a part of the Sound the Alarm free smoke alarm installation event.

Volunteers went door-to-door putting the new systems in place and replacing batteries in existing alarms.

The organization's event has saved more than 580 lives nationwide and 14 lives in Georgia.
