Prescribed burns in Georgia's national forests

ATLANTA - Forestry officials in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests will be conducting prescribed burns through the weekend in Georgia.

The U.S. Forest Service announced they will be burning close to 3,500 acres in three separate areas. Crews were out at Tallulah Gorge on Thursday burning about 780 acres. Smoke could be seen from the south rim of Tallulah Gorge State Park and along US 23/441 just south of Clayton.

 

 

Forestry officials were also out near Blairsville Thursday burning close to 1,900 acres. Smoke could be seen about 8 miles away in Blairsville. A few trails and service roads were closed because of the burn.

 

 

And motorist along Interstate 75 near Dalton have been seeing smoke from about an 850 acre prescribed burn. Officials also closed some trails and service roads near that burn.
