Police: Union City shooting leaves suspect dead, another injured

Police are invstigating a shooting in Union City Wednesday night that left one man dead and another in serious condition.

According to the Union City Police Department, a man was physically assaulted by two men during an attempted robbery around 8 p.m.. The male victim got away from the attackers and was chased to a nearby friend's house, located in the 5100 block of Cotter Drive, police said. 

Once the male victim arrived to his friend's house, police said he yelled for help as he was being attacked. The friend heard him and jumped in to help. That's when, according to investigators, shots were fired. 

Police said the two suspects left the scene in a car and headed toward Fairburn. They were found in a car located in the 100 block of Summerwood Drive. 

Paramedics rushed one man to Grady Memorial and the other to Fayette Piedmont.  One of the men later died.  At last check the other suspect was listed in serious condition. Their names have yet to be released.

The victim who was attacked had minor injuries, according to investigators. 

Police said preliminary investigations reveal this to be a "self-defense incident."
